Crossing to the Bahamas
It’s a beautiful Tuesday morning, and we have perfect conditions for our departure. We leave at dawn on an incoming tide with dozens of small fishing boats.
The water is so calm and beautiful. The run across to the Bahamas is like motoring in a bathtub. I’ve never seen an ocean so calm and glassy. We see all kinds of flying fish and the water is so calm you can see their little tail swirlies across the water like a Spirograph picture.
We make it to Memory Rock and the bank by 2 pm, and the water changes to this beautiful turquoise blue green at about 15 ft deep with a sandy bottom. Our goal is to anchor for the night at Mangrove Island and be having a Margarita for sunset.
Mission accomplished as we set the hook about 5 pm. We’ve seen plenty of other boats heading the same way but we have this place to ourselves. Calm night with no wind. After a beautiful red sky sunset, we’re greeted with an amazing super full moonrise. It’s like daylight out all night. Wow!
