Little Harbour

We’ve got a couple more days before some nasty weather arrives so we head on to Little Harbour.  It’s a well protected place, but we’ve never been before so we anchor around the corner and check out the entrance by dinghy. We’ll be able to get in but only at mid-high tide so it definitely would take planning.

We meet the ladies of Oooh La La, a Benneteau swift trawler from Savannah. Amy and Deb are professional boat captains/crew and have cruised this area for years. They immediately invited us on board for drinks which we enjoyed with a great sunset and conversation. These ladies have stories to tell!!

This harbour is famous for Pete’s Pub so we all head there for dinner. They proclaim on the morning radio net “Where the elite eat in their bare feet!” and that’s no joke. It’s a bar/restaurant with picnic tables in the sand. Dinner is amazing…I had pecan encrusted queen snapper with wild rice pilaf and local salad greens. Yum!!

The night is topped off with a perfect view of an Atlas 5 rocket launch from Cape Canaveral. So cool!

Saturday morning we can tell weather is coming as the swell has grown, and our anchorage is now very rolly. I get a coat of varnish on the foredeck rails, and that’s it for me. I need to get off the boat so we head out to explore in the dinghy. We head into O’Neill Creek, and we find hundreds of sea turtles. They are very shy and fast so we spend an hour drifting and turtle watching. Unfortunately I can’t get any good photos or video with our phones, but they sure are fun to watch.

We head back to Pete’s Pub to see what else is there, and we learn this was the home and foundery of artist Randolph Johnston, a well known sculptor. There is a lovely gallery showcasing his history, sculpture and the works of his son Pete. After another great meal we head back to Marsh Harbor to wait out the blow.

Sunset at Little Harbour.

I’ve been watching the weather and hoping all is well. So far I’d say you’re having a ball! Keep it up and stay safe! Love to you both! Mer
