Pickleball is back

Thursday, February 17, 2022

A big thank you to Abaco Beach Resort (ABR) for clearing out a space to play pickleball. ABR has never had a pickleball court, even before Dorian. Used to have astroturf like grass tennis courts back in the day. The Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club used to play as guests over at the Regattas condominiums next door.

First Pickleball at ABR

Regattas has not been rebuilt after being virtually demolished by Dorian. So we’ve had to find a new pickleball venue.

In the 2 1/2 years since Dorian, ABR has been using the old tennis courts as a lay down area for construction materials and office/construction workshop. The work is virtually complete and they were kind enough to clean off one of the tennis courts for us to play pickleball. We can’t thank them enough for freeing up this space.

Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club members laid out and painted a new pickleball court on the old concrete. Thanks to Bill Creedon “Georgia Song” who helped me layout out the court geometry. Also to Jim and Michele Rubeor along with their guests this week Fred and Carrie. Also Mike Curreri on Bravo Zulu.

Top left, we played a little using only the chalk lines and then rustled up some spray paint for the lines. The court is nicely protected from the wind.
